Winterthur expands 'super team' of executive business development managers

06 March 2008

Winterthur furthers its strategic plan to grow its services for advisers by expanding its super team of executive business development managers (EBDMs). The EBDM role focuses on building and developing new relationships and nurturing existing business accounts.

The new EBDMs appointed are four of the company's top performing business development managers from the previous three years. In order to reach their new position they have achieved the following:

  • Exceeded their sales target for three years in a row.
  • Undertaken an intensive self development programme with the objective of achieving advanced diploma and chartered status by 2012.
  • Become a role model to the rest of the sales force.
  • Provided strategic advice on product developing and marketing.

The four new appointments are David Beacham, Michael Bailey, Bud Henley and Sue Horne.

David Beacham brings with him over 17 years experience with companies including NPI and Prudential, and was also an IFA for two years. David's expertise has made him an asset to the Winterthur business for over four years.

Michael Bailey joined the financial sector 20 years ago, working for firms such as Scottish Widows, before joining Winterthur in 2001. His experience of managing existing and creating new relationships with financial advisers will help increase market penetration.

Having achieved strong new business results for Winterthur since joining the company five years ago, Bud Henley brings to the role 30 years of financial expertise, having built his career initially at Abbey Life and Scottish Equitable.

Finally, Sue Horne has demonstrated exceptional sales expertise in the 20 years she has worked for Winterthur, joining the company from KPMG. Sue set up Winterthur's Adviser Support Unit in Manchester in 1988, and became BDM in the North West in 2001.

These four appointments expand the team of executive business development managers to eight; Nick Stokes, Kenny McCall, John Corbyn, Laurence Toft, Bud Henley, Sue Horne, David Beacham and Michael Bailey.

Frank Parsons, director of sales, Winterthur, says: "These new appointments recognise the contribution these four outstanding individuals have made to Winterthur's performance over the last three years and the continued stellar performance they have delivered in their current roles. They have also demonstrated strong strategic skills, which have supported a number of leading Winterthur initiatives over recent years. Each of them deserves their promotion and their enhanced roles will bring huge benefits to the wider Winterthur proposition."
