Last Thursday sales consultants from Winterthur Life UK’s South West division scaled Ben Nevis to raise money for Naomi House as part of the company’s 2006 ‘Make a Difference’ campaign.
Following a staff vote, in February this year Winterthur Life CEO, Mike Kellard, announced Naomi House as the company’s local ‘Make a Difference’ charity for 2006. In addition to the host of sporting events and fun activities arranged by staff and business partners, Mike unveiled plans for a sponsored climb of Ben Nevis in Scotland.
The Ben Nevis climbing team, who ascended the 1,344 metre summit in just one day, was headed by Winterthur’s divisional sales manager for the South West, Jon Haslam, and comprised members of his department and other Winterthur sales staff. With generous donations from friends, family, colleagues, business partners, and company pledges, the event is expected to raise £10,000 for Naomi House.
Winterthur Life has already raised over £7,500 towards its £40,000 annual fundraising target from raffles and other sponsored staff events.
Naomi House, based near Winchester in Hampshire, is a children’s hospice which relies on donations to maintain its provision of palliative care and support for children and families across southern England.
Jon Haslam said: “The idea to climb Ben Nevis originally came from a wild suggestion for a team building day. As we gave it some serious thought it seemed obvious to tie this in with the company’s ‘Make a Difference’ charity campaign. The support and encouragement we’ve received since has been overwhelming. Also, what better way to hold our divisional team meeting than on top of a mountain!”
